Meet Lynley Hall…

Lynley, tell us more about your career to date? How did you come to be working in Tax and Treasury?

I’ve always been interested in the finance industry; I studied Accountancy at University and started my career working as an Accountant. I enjoy the commercial side of business and am passionate about people and their impact on an organisation as they grow and prosper in their career.

How was the shift from working in Tax to Executive Search and Interim Management?

Having worked as a Tax Consultant for six years I had the key skills and insight into what’s needed to propel a company’s Tax and Treasury forward. Ultimately, I’m interested in people. I firmly believe that success comes from leading a team of people, and great leadership can be the difference between executing the strategy well and not.

I moved over to executive search in Tax, Treasury and Finance, where I have been working for the last seven years, to connect great candidates with companies in both interim and permanent roles at a senior level. I have access to a wide network of candidates across the globe and work with clients in all territories, from start-ups looking to appoint their first leadership tax and treasury roles, to global blue-chip organisations across all sectors within commerce and industry.

When I’m recruiting for a client, I really get to know the culture of the organisation, and I’m focused on finding the right personal fit for each role and organisation. Through my network of connections, I look to add value to clients and introduce them to people who fit their culture and complement their team’s skill set. Each connection I make has to provide mutual benefit.

How has the pandemic impacted Tax and Treasury roles, if at all?

The coronavirus pandemic has completely changed the business landscape and has created huge challenges for companies and organisations as they navigate the new normal. As we all know, cash is king, so having the right personnel to navigate through the financial challenges of 2021 and most likely 2022 will be key for companies as they shore up their balance sheets.

What are you most looking forward to about your new role with Eton Bridge?

Eton Bridge has already got an impressive network of fantastic clients and candidates. I’m looking forward to introducing the CFOs and finance leaders in my portfolio to new challenging roles through the Eton Bridge network.

I’m passionate about people, understanding them and listening to their aspirations. At Eton Bridge the culture is focused on people first, and that’s why I think that my experience and ways of working are uniquely mirrored by the culture at Eton Bridge and I can’t wait to get started!

What one piece of advice has had the biggest impact on you throughout your career?

My one piece of advice is to understand what you are good at and what you enjoy. Being honest with yourself about these two things will help you find a job which you are passionate about and in which you can grow and develop.

What are your top tips for people starting out in Tax and Accountancy now?

Be patient, the world is evolving at an incredible speed as the coronavirus pandemic changes the world in which we live in. Businesses and organisations need to adapt to the changes at pace and therefore new opportunities are becoming available all the time.

Wait for the right opportunity and use your connections to move yourself to the right company, in the right position when the time is right for you.

What do you love to do when you are not working, and what’s kept you sane during the lockdowns?

I love running and it has been so good for my mindset throughout the pandemic. It has definitely helped keep me sane during lockdown! I love to travel, and once restrictions are lifted I can’t wait to visit my favourite Mediterranean destinations; Croatia, Greece and Italy.

The other thing that I’m really looking forward to doing is to eat out in restaurants as soon as we are able to. I’m completely bored of my own cooking!
