Introducing the Board & CEO Insights Report 2025
As the pace of change accelerates and uncertainty becomes a constant, the CEO role is evolving in response. Today’s leaders are navigating a uniquely complex landscape shaped by geopolitical shifts, technological disruption, and changing societal expectations.
At Eton Bridge Partners, our work with Boards, CEOs and their executive teams brings us close to the changing demands on leaders, and the skills needed to deliver on new organisational agendas. gives us a front-row seat to the evolving demands placed on CEOs.
To explore these trends more deeply, our inaugural Board & CEO Insights Report draws on the perspectives of over 100 UK-based CEOs, Chairs and NEDs to examine the biggest risks boards are navigating, the traits defining successful CEOs, and the strategic imperatives driving business forward.
We’ve segmented findings by ownership type (PE-backed, Listed, and Privately-Owned) which has revealed both consistent themes and some notable differences.
Let’s take a look at some of the key findings:
Resilience is the new baseline
More than any other trait, resilience stands out as a core quality of successful CEOs, with 45% citing it as the number one characteristic needed for success in the role. While resilience is valued strongly across all ownership types, it’s particularly emphasised in PE-backed environments where pace and delivery expectations can be more immediate, and the definition of value has broadened.
Growth remains a bold priority
Despite headwinds and crosswinds, the vast majority of our survey respondents are still focused on growth. The ambition is strong, but the path forward demands sharper judgement and greater agility.
Data and creativity must work in tandem
Boards no longer debate whether to lead with instinct or insight. The best CEOs are blending evidence-based decisions with bold, human-centred leadership.
Agility is a key accelerator
Organisational agility is emerging as a strong differentiator, particularly in Listed and Private companies, where speed of decision-making and ability to pivot are critical to competitiveness.
The Board & CEO Insights Report is both a snapshot of current thinking and a practical tool for the year ahead.
For CEOs, it shines a light on where to focus your energy and development.
For boards and investors, it offers an opportunity to reflect on leadership fit, succession planning and strategy focuses.
For future CEOs, it provides insight into what’s required to thrive in the top job (beyond the CV).
